We’re already 7 weeks into 2010…time flies. This is about the time when New Years Resolutions are completely forgotten about, as Valentine’s Day takes over self control of moderating the intake of chocolate, sweets, dessert, or wine; and the newly enabled gym membership card is nowhere to be found.
Because of Lori’s Ten in ‘10 Challenge, I am constantly referring back to my goals and resolutions and working to make myself a better person all around.
The past 2 weeks have been challenging for me. Oddly enough, I have been craving sugar. The more you eat the more you crave, right? In my case, yes. It all started with the box of Matt’s Cookies – not that I am complaining cause I did ask to try them! Since then I have been craving sugar all. the. time. I’ve tried to incorporate healthy aspects (ice cream with granola, or yogurt with dark chocolate) but I think it’s all catching up with me and about to spiral out of control!
I have decided to ‘give up’ sweets for the next 40 days. It can’t be that hard.
Forbidden:
- desserts after dinner and nighttime snacking
- dark chocolate Dove and York patties
- Ice Cream
- cake, cookies, brownies, muffins, etc.
Allowable (in moderation):
- yogurt
- granola
- cereal
- hot chocolate
- gum
- chocolate oats
- peanut butter
How are you doing with your resolutions? Has this Challenge been successful for you?

Ugh I know how you feel about the sweets. It's true... Once you have a little bit you just want more... and more... and more! If I just don't have anything then it usually works out best for me. :)
I hear ya on the sweets, the more I have, the more I want! I was eating dark chocolate after dinner but it just made me want to eat more chocolate. My go to dessert these days is a 6oz plain 0% greek yogurt mixed with a dark chocolate pudding cup and a packet of truvia. OR a frozen flavored chobani. Takes forever to eat and is filling and nutritious. Frozen grapes and pineapple are good too! Good luck, you can do it! :)
I'm lucky that I don't crave sweets at all, but carbs, on the other hand, are my weakness. I've done pretty well so far on the challenge but had one week with no progress because I was visiting my family in Texas. Three outings to my favorite Mexican food restaurants probably contributed to that! Good luck with your goals!
I'm taking the same approach with my Lenten resolution! Glad to see someone else can't give up cocoa oats. They're good for you, though!
Good for you for giving up sweets! They are a vice for me.
WOW goodluck with no sweets! I am sure you will do great =)
So funny that you posted this today as I am feeling the same way and have decided to give up sweetening my foods. No more stevia for the next 40 days. The no calories sweeteners make me crave sweets even more. I used to not use it as much, but I've gotten in the habit of sweetening everything, and I want to taste the true flavors of my foods for a while. Needing to get out of this sweet rut - just makes me feel gross.
Best of luck to you...oh, and I'm sticking with the gum too. Gave that up last year, but started chewing again. I'm paranoid about bad breath. :)
how cool you synchronize skated!! share the deets on where :)
