My Head is Back to Normal

image

I haven’t posted in 3 days!  Reason being, I had the worst headache after my massage on Wednesday.  I’m still trying to figure out why and why it’s still lingering 3 days later, though it is subsiding and Motrin actually makes a difference now.  I felt like I hit my head super hard on the ground.  The only thing I could do was lay down and eat.  Weird, I had an appetite.  Well, not that weird I guess, I don’t miss a meal!

Possible causes of post-massage 3-day headache:

  • Didn’t drink enough water after:  I think I drank enough water to avoid a “toxin headache” as I drink TONS of water daily.  The headache came on about 2 hours after the massage.
  • The therapist pinched a nerve in my neck:  It was painful during the massage, but I thought it was ‘good’ pain. I have a lot of stress and tension in my upper back and neck, she worked it pretty good.
  • Massage "jargon”:  posterior and lateral musculature was heavily worked but no anterior work was done. I have no idea if this is what happened, but I read this causes painful headaches after a massage.

Anyway, I am about 85% back to “normal” and am going to try to get outside for a run after I finish this post.  It’s a beautiful sunny day in Michigan, about 35* and more snow is on the way tomorrow, so I need to get out there today!  Besides the fact that I have not worked out since Wednesday is starting to haunt me slightly. smile_thinking

4:55 wake up time this Saturday AM was NOT cool. I had to drive my lovely parents to the airport, as they are on their way to Hawaii for 2 weeks! smile_baringteeth I begged to go, literally, but was subtly shut-down each time.  Luckily I was back home by 6:15am to continue my night’s sleep, but you know how that goes…not very well after being up, out and about for a bit.

Breakfast consisted of this goodness:

Two egg whites + colby cheese stick inside; 1/2 english muffin with organic PB + banana

Currently snacking on: Cottage cheese, dried plum , granola mix w/ Agave Nectar in prep for workout in a few

Speaking of Agave Nectar, Tina started quite the discussion about the negative claims versus health benefits of Agave Nectar.  What are your thoughts?  Read her exciting post here.

MUSHROOM & BARLEY SOUP

My eats over the past few days have not been all that exciting, though I did try this new soup.

Review:  Definitely LOW in sodium, I added some sea salt and pepper. The soup looks NOTHING like the picture on the box.

Appealing to the eye?  Not so much. The taste grew on me.  I like the fact that Tabatchnick soups are frozen, so there are no preservatives, and less sodium.  I am going to try more of these in the future.DSC01764

CLIF MOJO – PEANUT BUTTER PRETZEL

Picked up this bad boy on sale the other day: HOLY YUM!  A perfect afternoon snack, it held me over, and I wasn’t even THAT hungry for dinner.

DSC01776   I inhaled half before taking the picture…yes, this is only HALF, it was a great size bar.

image Definitely worth every one of the 200 calories and 10g protein.  I think these will be staple on my grocery list, not to knock of my beloved Luna’s though smile_regular

Off to get a good sweat sesh in, then going out on the town tonight!  A group of my high school friends are all getting together, should be a blast!

Sorry to hear about your painful massage! Hopefully next time it will be better :) Those Mojo bars are incredible. The chocolate pretzel is my fave, but I don't think I've ever tried PB pretzel! Sounds yummy. Have a great weekend!

Massages are supposed to be a good thing! What a bummer :( I accidentally picked up one of those mojo bars ones and was glad I did! They are so good! Not sure about the agave stuff... It's kinda like agave vs. honey vs. sugar... Which is sorta like chocolate chips vs. carob chips. If I'm not a vegan why would I eat carob chips? What are the health benefits and how could they outweigh dark chocolate? Not sure about all that stuff :)

2 weeks in Hawaii?! Jealous!

Re: agave. I'm pro-agave. It's an all-natural sweetener with no additives. People want a calorie-free, natural, completely safe sweetener, and we're just not there yet. The glycemic index of agave is lower than sugar and HFCS, so I don't get the bad rap at all!
